There was a rather large package for me today; odd, considering that I didn't order anything over break. It contained 24 cups of Funimation instant ramen.

06:17 pm - Why can't I get through one school year without computer problems?
My external hard drive went from working fine to mostly dead in half an hour last night. No clue as to what caused it. It seems to be a mechanical failure, as it started making awful grinding and scratching noises. Because it went so quickly, I didn't have time to back up any of the files on it, so I've lost most of the series that I had, as well as about 1/4 of my music. I can get most of the series back, but a couple of them (the Anime-Keep sub of Gankutsuou is what's currently bothering me the most) as well as most of the music, are going to be more difficult to replace.
On the bright side, my father seems to think that there is a good chance that a data recovery company could salvage something, so I'll probably send it in once I've gotten enough money. That will take a while, as the cheapest of the companies that I've looked at so far charges a minimum of $140 an hour.
The most aggrivating part is that I'd planned on burning all of the files on the external drive to DVDs over Thanksgiving break. I'll probably attempt it anyway; I should at least make a copy of the internal hard drive.
At least the Doctor Who concert made today slightly better.

So I've finally got my laptop back; it has had its fan, heat-sink, case, keyboard, battery, and power cord replaced. I turn it on, it works fine for about half an hour, and then it starts making a noise that seems to be a cross between squealing and scratching. This is the same problem that I had originally sent it in to have fixed. I guess I won't be seeing it for another few months.
Other than that, this summer has been relatively uneventful. An actual update will be made when something interesting happens.

So, about the whole "my computer is back" thing... While my computer itself is back, its power cord isn't, rendering it useless. They also managed to "fix" my laptop in such a way that its case covers part of the place that the power cord is plugged into. This means that I'll have to ship it away again when I'm back in Florida. Moral of this story: never buy electronics from Best Buy.

Yay! My laptop just arrived! Could someone drive me to Best Buy so that I can pick it up?

I've scanned in my Saiyuki and Kyou Kara Maou posters in case someone wants a copy of them.
The Kyou Kara Maou poster can be found here.
The Saiyuki poster is here.
The posters were scanned at 300 dpi, so the file sizes are very large (the KKM one is about 60 MB; the Saiyuki one is 200 MB). I'll make a smaller version available if people want one for their computer, as the current versions are intended for people who want a printed copy of the posters.

03:18 am - Why couldn't it have done this over break?
Back at school now. The break was wonderful; both my family and my computer behaved. Of course, now that I'm away from ready transportation, my computer decides to act up again. At least I now have the warranty. Does anyone know where the nearest Best Buy is and how to get there? I think the problem this time is that the laptop's fan is failing slowly.

05:21 am - Nearly There...
Packing is mostly done, and my flight is at 6:25 this evening. Won't actually move in 'til tomorrow, and then I'll have a good portion of my father's family with me, so it's really not going to be that fun. Still, I can't wait to get out of here. Part of me is still surprised that I actually survived this summer. The other part has decided that it's best to try to forget most of the time I spent here.
